6 Months until my Big Day

It is now less than 6 month until my big day and I wanted to use this blog as a way of keeping note of my journey of becoming a bride to be.

Themes....

I have been obsessed with metallics when looking for inspiration and my favourite colour is purple so I had gone for a Lavender and Gold theme. I have chosen Lavender as this allows for there to be a scent to the day as well as a colour.

I have liked having gold as one of my colours as this has allowed for me to add sparkle to the day with gold glitter and gold sequins :)

Choosing a purple was quite hard as there are so many pretty shades; as lavender is the shade which I have chosen it has greys hues in the colour so I have gone for a lavender/ mauve shade of purple.

Designing my stationery for the day was so much fun as it is the first insight into the day. I used a company called http://www.bespokeweddinginvites.co.uk they were so friendly and I literally sent a list of different ideas and fonts and they put all my ideas into an invitation. We were really pleased and the invitations were bespoke so there will be no other invitations like them. They were really good value for money and offer full wedding day stationery so we are going to arrange for them to do our name cards, menus and seating plan. We had a monogram also designed which is cute and we are having this as a theme through out our day.

What are your thoughts on our theme idea? Do you like the idea of having metallics as a theme?

Wedding Season is Back

Me and Kitty have been really excited to see the return of wedding fairs and we are hoping to attend as many as possible whether this is as vendors or as attendees.

We went to the 'Wedding Fair North West' at Event City on Sunday, we went as attendees and it was so much fun to see and meet the vendors who where there and see their amazing wedding ideas and businesses.

We are hoping to attend more fairs and we would love recommendations for ones to both vend at and attend. We would be really interested to hear which events you are going to!

If you see us at any wedding fairs please come and say hello; we may have some freebies and information about our lipsticks.

Super Shiny lips

A really important part of designing our lipsticks was to make sure that they are super moisturising and this is a large reason why they are longer lasting compared to most high street cosmetic brands.

Vitamin A is very conditioning for your lips and this is an ingredient in our lipsticks.

Look how shiny our lipsticks are! Who needs gloss when you have a super moisturising lipstick to wear on your wedding day!

Autumnal Golds and Bronzes

We have recently had lots of beautiful brides contacting us asking for advice on what lipstick colour would suit gold and bronze colour eye shadow.

If you are going to wear gold or bronze on your wedding day we would recommend for you to wear a more neutral lip shade.

Our Lipstick 'Just Married' is the a very pretty nude which we would recommend if you are going for darker eye shadow.

If you are wearing a lighter eye we would recommend our lipstick 'I Do'.

We hope we have helped! Lipsticks only £12! Available at www.lovehonoourandbetrue.com

Ask the Experts: What in your opinion is the most important part of a bride’s makeup?

After asking the best ways to keep the bride calm on the morning of their wedding we asked Susie, Jo and Sandra what is in their opinion the most important part of the brides wedding Makeup.....

"The most important part of the bride’s makeup is the first and last stages. Priming the skin to secure the base lasts and the foundation is flawless is key. Taking time to apply foundation and blending gives longevity which is essential for a full days wedding. Once all makeup is applied a setting spray should be applied to fix. The only thing you will need to top up is lipstick and make sure it's something fabulous like all the Love, Honour and Be True range."
Susie Bloice Professional Makeup Artist
http://www.complexions-perth.co.uk/

"The most important part of bridal make-up is to "look like you"…..it’s you and it’s your personality go for a style that is "you".  This will mean you will look radiant, beautiful, and relaxed on your wedding day."
Jo Leversuch Professional Makeup Artist
http://makeupbyjo.co.uk/

"That's a tricky one to isolate however before even applying makeup a good skin prep with skincare products are essential as without this the makeup will not look as good. I like to use Dermalogica, Charlotte Tilbury and Shu Emura among others. Makeup that lasts all day and evening is vital and kissable lips using Love, Honour and Be True's fabulous shades, long-lasting and non-drying."

Review – SC Makeup Artistry

After being contacted by fellow makeup artists and sisters Helen & Kitty who founded the company who make these great products I awaited my delivery of their 5 plush lipsticks. Each lipstick was contained in their own individual bag, nestled in paper hearts and a label-perfect for any Bride. I loved the packaging, simple classic white and with the name of the lipstick on the bottom of the tube, not the lid. Great for makeup artists like me as there’s no chance of losing track of which lipstick is which!

The names are well-chosen: ‘ Just Married’ a classic pure nude, ‘Love Story’if you think you can’t wear red, think again! Very subtle and and soft, ‘Kiss the Bride’, a bright pink and particularly looks great for fair skinned Brides, ‘I Do’ a pinkish nude colour , suitable for anyone and ‘Blushing Bride’ a deliciously warm pink tone and one of my personal favourites. There really is a classic colour for everyone, from nudes through to red and all are long-lasting. Not in a way that means they go dry if not topped up-oh no! Lips stay moist and the formula is non-bleeding. The piece de resistance is that they aren’t tested on animals.

What do I like about them?

Easy to apply, fabulous consistency and staying power, flattering colours, very quick delivery and exceptional customer service.
My Brides love the packaging, how it feels and tastes on their lips and more room in my makeup case as I don’t need to carry around tons of lipsticks now. The other plus is that I don’t have to worry about the products being discontinued as sometimes happens with other brands.

If you are looking for a company that is both ethical, affordable (the lipsticks are only £12 each). I’m a convert; love them!

Ask the Experts: How do you keep your Brides Calm on their Wedding Morning?

As we have some amazing Make-Up artists who stock our beautiful lipsticks we thought we would share their knowledge by asking them a series of questions.......

The most nerve racking part of your wedding day is the preparation; We have asked three of our stockists how they keep their gorgeous brides calm on the morning of their big day?

"My top tip is to keep the room you are in calm whether that would be playing your favourite music or watching a tv programme.   Don't have too many people fussing around you and if you fancy a tipple of champagne why not!!.   When i arrive my first preparation to the skin is a superb moisturiser called Steamcream which has lavender in that helps to relax the brides on the morning."
Jo Leversuch Professional MakeuArtist

http://www.makeupbyjo.co.uk/

"I like to arrive in plenty of time to set up, I always  have a pre-arranged schedule and suggest that only those who are having hair and makeup done at that time are in the room. A glass of bubbly is pre-requisite for Brides to be and calms most nerves!"
Sandra Cormack Professional Makeup
Artist  http://www.scmakeupartistry.co.uk/

"My tip to keeping a bride calm on the big day is making sure she has some of her favourite songs playing ! A drink in her hand whither that be a nice iced water , orange juice or something a wee bit stronger in the form of bubbles . Hair and makeup should be underway with plenty time so nothing is rushed and changes can be made if needed . Bridesmaids should be assisting , organising and liaising with suppliers , the venue and best man to assure everything is in place . With all this covered the bride should be calm and thoroughly enjoying her morning ."

Our Top Tips for Soft Lips

After the recent competition which we ran with Perfect Wedding Magazine where entrants were asked their top tips to gaining soft lips, here is one of our secrets and is a product all women should have.......

It is called Sara Happ lip scrub, it is made from sugar and eliminates all flakey dry skin on your lips and it tastes delicious too!

All you need to do is apply to your lips, lightly rub and wipe off with a tissue. This will wipe away your chapped skin and leave soft kissable lips worthy of your perfect wedding lipstick shade.

Lipstick and Lashes

The second most important thing for your wedding day make-up after your Wedding Lipstick (obvs) is your eyelashes. To gain thicker longer looking lashes we love eyelash extensions; we recommend for you to have semi permanent eyelash extensions instead of strip lashes.

There are many different types of eyelash extension; but the main thing to remember is the individual lashes which are used are good quality.

Good eyelashes make your eyes look wider, sexy and almost natural.
Bad Lashes are thick and plastic looking which can make your eyes look dark, heavy and spidery.

We are HUGE fans of Lash Perfect Russian Layered Lashes. Russian Layering is a technique which involves adhering synthetic ultra fine lashes (usually 3 up to 5) onto one single lash. This layered effect makes the synthetic lashes 'Fan' out and make the lash look 3D and gorgeous.

It is a pricey process (approx £90) but it's worth it! Lashes last approximately 3-6 weeks so they can last from your big day through to the end of your Honeymoon.

Eyelashes by Jennifer at Beauty Reborn Manchester. www.beautyreborn.com Russian Lashes £85.

'I Do' on top of a Waterfall

I recently visited India with my partner Sam to visit some friends who are travelling the world. We visited the beautiful South Western region called Kerala.

On the fourth day of our trip we visited two waterfalls - Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls both are 5 km from each other.

At Vazhachal Falls me and Sam split off where he asked me to sit down on a rock, looking around all I could see was a tree root so I sat down and Sam sat beside me. Taking in the views me and looking down towards the edge of the waterfall I turned around saw that Sam he was down on one knee, bursting into tears I said 'Yes'. I am so excited to share these images and I hope you like them!

A Blushing Bride in Lake Garda

My Beautiful friend Gemma recently got married in Lake Garda, and the images are so breath taking we could not, not blog about her wedding.

An intimate wedding of 29 guests, Gemma and Andy’s big day was one of the most amazing weddings we have ever seen.

Gemma’s wedding planner arranged for a local makeup artist to do Gemma’s makeup which was flawless and Gemma wore ‘Blushing Bride’ on her lips.

Gemma and Andy were married by the Mayor at the Town Hall followed by their reception on the veranda of their hotel Villa de Sogno, overlooking Lake Garda.

Tell us Your Love Story

Our Gorgeous Red Lipstick is named Love Story and since we have launched, although we are a bridal themed make up brand, our lipstick 'Love Story' has started a theme of being the beginning of real life love stories....

It started with my good friend Ruth, who in January the minute our website launched bought the lipstick 'Love Story' as she wanted to be our first purchase, later day I called her and she mentioned that she had met a guy who she was going on her first date with later that week. She said wanted to have a gorgeous red lip for the evening and our shade would be perfect..... six months on they are madly in love and planning on moving in together!

Our second story started with one of Jennifer's (our sister) clients, Jennifer works at Kitty's beauty salon in Manchester which stocks all of our beautiful lipstick shades. One of her regular Mani/ Pedi clients came in to prepare for a holiday she and her boyfriend were going on the following day, that day, after getting her nails done, she bought 'Love Story' to take on holiday with her. Two weeks later Jennifer's client came into the salon, excited and smiling, her boyfriend had PROPOSED!!! Jennifer asked for all of the details and one of details from that evening was she was wearing 'Love Story'!

These are the stories we have been told as they have been to people close to us, but if our theme for this gorgeous red is true, it really is a 'Love Story' in it's self.

Love Story is available via our website www.lovehonourandbetrue.com for £12!

We would love to hear your Love Stories

Our Lipsticks on the Runway!

Backstage photo by Elizabeth Stuart
Me and Kitty were lucky enough to be invited to the amazing Elizabeth Stuart's Fall show and our beautiful lipsticks were worn on the models to complement the amazing gowns!
The only obvious lip colour choice was 'Just Married' (our nude lip colour) chosen by Pamela and Andrea MUA, as Elizabeth's Dresses are so unique and romantic that only neutral lip work work.

At the Start of the Runway
The Show showed trends of fairy-tales and nature - which looks to be hot this autumn -how exciting! Colour trends look to be dusty pinks and glitter - what you imagine when you think of a sugarplum fairy and our beautiful lipsticks are the perfect accompaniment for any whimsical look.

If you are bride looking for Happily Ever After - Elizabeth Stuarts Gowns are definitely the choice for you, marry this with a neutral lip and it is a match made in heaven!

Flower Trends look to continue being moss, earthy tones, elderflowers and hydrangeas - we love!

Bridal Fashion Week is Coming!!!

It has been about two months since we launched! And we have been some busy bees!

Lipsticks arriving at Elizabeth Stuart HQ
But the biggest surprise was being approached by the amazing Wedding Dress Designer Elizabeth Stuart  to be part of her first stand alone fashion show at the beginning of Bridal Fashion Week 2014 to show her beautiful gowns for this Autumn Winter!! Our gorgeous lipsticks are going to be in the gift bags for all the attendees for the show.... and me and Kitty will be in the crowd too (yippee).

We are so excited and we are looking forward to giving you the inside scoop to the show and what amazing creations Elizabeth Stuart has in store for us this Fall!

Testimonial from a real Blushing Bride

I am very honoured to have been the first Love, Honour and Be True bride when I got married in Cape Town, December 2013.  I wore 'Blushing Bride' and the colour was absolutely perfect.  I couldn't find 'the right' colour anywhere else that was natural but still noticeable - this lipstick was the one for me and I couldn't recommend it more highly for any bride-to-be out there.  I felt so comfortable wearing it - it felt special for my big day but not too bright that I was worrying about covering my husband's face with it for the photos after our first kiss!  The packaging is just so lovely and makes it really special and the quality of the actual make up is second to none - it feels like wearing velvet cream on your lips. The great thing is that now the wedding is over it's a wonderful way to keep that memory of the day alive - I wore 'Blushing Bride' on Valentine's Day and it brought back the memories of my big day all over again. It feels like so much care, thought and love has gone in to making these lipsticks and you really feel like you're wearing something tailored for your wedding day when you wear it.  Thanks ladies for adding that special touch to my big day - much love xxx

Imogen recieved one of our lipsticks prior to our launch so that she could wear one of beautiful shades on her big day! Imogen wore 'Blushing Bride' available on our website;

And now the information you really want to hear.... THE WEDDING DETAILS!!

A charming wedding for two -

just bride and groom – the epitome of romance

! Set in the idyllic backdrop of the Western Cape, we went for romantic bliss with a maroon and red theme for our Summertime South African Christmas wedding. We brought all of our special tokens and vintage finishing touches from the UK to bring a little part of our family and friends with us...from my sister's garter, to my grandmother's vintage clutch bag, from silver Kurt Geiger sandals bought by my girlfriends and an ‘I do’ sticker placed under my shoe by one of my oldest friends, to a six-pence inside my shoe from my mother-in-law!

We decided to have a very intimate ceremony on 28th December 2013, just the two of us, over in the place where our journey together started. It was a dream come true for us to have made this commitment to each other under the African stars. Both of us are British but were living in Cape Town, both having life changing moments in our own journeys, when we met 3 years ago. We've been going back every Christmas and it was during our Christmas holiday 2012 that Savvas proposed (on 28th December actually!)...so we knew immediately that we had to go back to Cape Town to get married.

We flew over from the UK on the 21st December and stayed in Cape Town for a week to relax and prepare and stayed in the beautiful hotel, Ellerman House, where all the stars stay when they visit South Africa. The night before the wedding we drove over to the wedding hotel, La Residence, which is set in the dramatic and breathtaking Wine Valley town Franschhoek, 50 minutes outside of the city.

La Residence

is set up the slope of the Franschhoek mountains, with breathtaking views over the valley below and vineyards surrounding the estate. The luxury estate is a true 5-star venue – built and decorated in old-French style. The thatched reception hall with chequered floor is lit by massive crystal chandeliers. To add to the regal feel, the walls and surrounding grounds are decorated with a high value art collection and sculptures. Definitely a venue fit for royalty

…Elton John himself has his own suite here!

The theme was red to keep with the romance of the day (and also the time of year being Christmas!), and maroon, which is Savvas’ favourite colour. The incredible events coordinator Chantell Viljoen and her florist at La Residence had created a red rose petal trail for me, lined with maroon storm lanterns, down the hill to the lake where we tied the knot at 6pm, with the African sunset as a back drop, under a stunningly decorated pergola. We had written their own vows and chosen some of our favourite poems and prayers to read to finish off the entirely unique and personal ceremony, which included a traditional African ‘Unity Sands Ceremony’ where there is a symbolic blending of two different sands to represent their inseparable bond in marriage.

We were serenaded with our favourite romantic classical music by a violin and a guitar (courtesy of Mike and Titia of Palm Strings), and music gently filled the air as they followed us as we strolled around the grounds of the hotel having our couples photo shoot – it was like something out of a movie!

I wore an understated yet stunning Amanda Wakeley dress and veil (from her London, Chelsea boutique and from her aptly named 2013 ‘Africa’ range!), which was comfortable and perfect for the relaxed summer South African setting, but could also be transformed for a UK winter wedding party by adding a lace jacket custom made by the dress makers of Pure Couture. I wore a beautiful Gillion Million headpiece (from her Teddington boutique), and I just had to go with the obligatory sparkly Jimmy Choos for the UK party. Savvas wore a Hugo Boss suit and Oliver Sweeney shoes and accessories – two of his favourite brands. My ‘Snow White look’ makeup and hair was flawlessly created by Marize Louw and her assistant Rina, and I wore the most incredible lipstick courtesy of the original wedding makeup brand 'Love Honour & Be True', a company actually created by one of my oldest and dearest friends Helen Hiscocks with her sister Kitty.

Our dinner menu was created especially for us…because there was only the two of us we could both have their favourite meals, which included grilled beef for Savvas, and Malva Pudding, a traditional South African desert. The chefs at La Residence surprised us by baking the smallest wedding cake ever, and after the ceremony, once the photographers and videographers had left, we settled in to a romantic wedding dinner for two, watching the sun set in each other's arms...bliss.

After the wedding we went straight off on our honeymoon to the luxury beach villa resort of Azura, on Benguerra Island, Mozambique. However, this special celebration would not have been complete for us without sharing the occasion with those closest to us whom we love so much. So after we returned home to the UK from Mozambique, on Saturday January 25th 2014, we were honoured to have our family and friends to join us for the evening, in our home town of Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, to celebrate our marriage as we took our first steps on the next chapter of our journey. We had a relaxed evening reception in the Moroccan Lounge of the fabulous 'Crazy Bear Hotel’ in Beaconsfield, coordinated by Ramona Todor (of Crazy Bear), and which was captured by Ines Banks of Source Image Photography. We went for formal but contemporary invitations for our party, created by The Letterpress of Cirencester, and also created a wedding website with Worldwide Wedding to keep our guests informed and to allow them to catch up on our SA wedding photos and video once we had returned.

If there are any couples out there tempted to go it alone and have that romantic wedding for two that they’ve always dreamed off, then we couldn’t recommend it more highly! We had the most memorable and wonderful day of our lives and we were thrilled to be able to really just enjoy it alone – celebrating with our one true love. It means you can go all out and have all those personalized touches that make the day really about you two…not to mention that it can save money if you have just a small celebration when you get back!

Looking after number one – Your skin

In the run up to your big day, you need to start thinking about number one – you! At the end of the day this means your skin. Here are some important steps to follow to gain that natural glowing bridal look.

With the changeable weather us Brits have, we need to make sure that on those sunny days, even if it is a little cloudy to wear an SPF – whether this is in your foundation or just a light amount of sunscreen before you leave the house (imagine being sun burnt or peeling in your wedding photos!).
Also if the weather is cool remember to moisturise – ensuring your face, knees and elbows are especially looked after so that if you are tanning the tan does not stick to your dry patches.

If you are working out in order to lose those last couple of pounds from your hen do and pre-wedding celebrations – remember to take all of your makeup off before you work out! Nobody cares what you look like at the gym or at your classes.
If you wear makeup when you are working out, your body will try to expel heat and toxins, which will clog in your pores, making your skin hold all those baddies you need to get rid of.

Choose a good skin care regime. Start early – not a week before and find a product which suits you. Stay away from anything which includes alcohol (ethanol) or ‘aromatherapy oils’- these are not natural for your skin.
The skin care brand which we would recommend is Environ, especially their AVST range which formulated exclusively for the International Market. These moisturisers contain vitamin A and antioxidants including vitamins E, vitamin C, Green Tea Extract, Honey bush and Rooibos Tea Extracts, Resveratrol and Beta-Carotene – basically lots of skin goodies! We have recommended this range to friends and family who have mentioned noticeable improvements and compliments.

You can get Environ from good beauty salons or http://www.chelleon.co.uk/environ-skincare?gclid=CMaptMS3grgCFQ_LtAod200AyA
