A Blushing Bride in Lake Garda

My Beautiful friend Gemma recently got married in Lake Garda, and the images are so breath taking we could not, not blog about her wedding.
An intimate wedding of 29 guests, Gemma and Andy’s big day was one of the most amazing weddings we have ever seen.
Gemma’s wedding planner arranged for a local makeup artist to do Gemma’s makeup which was flawless and Gemma wore ‘Blushing Bride’ on her lips.
Gemma and Andy were married by the Mayor at the Town Hall followed by their reception on the veranda of their hotel Villa de Sogno, overlooking Lake Garda.

Tell us Your Love Story

Our Gorgeous Red Lipstick is named Love Story and since we have launched, although we are a bridal themed make up brand, our lipstick 'Love Story' has started a theme of being the beginning of real life love stories....

It started with my good friend Ruth, who in January the minute our website launched bought the lipstick 'Love Story' as she wanted to be our first purchase, later day I called her and she mentioned that she had met a guy who she was going on her first date with later that week. She said wanted to have a gorgeous red lip for the evening and our shade would be perfect..... six months on they are madly in love and planning on moving in together!

Our second story started with one of Jennifer's (our sister) clients, Jennifer works at Kitty's beauty salon in Manchester which stocks all of our beautiful lipstick shades. One of her regular Mani/ Pedi clients came in to prepare for a holiday she and her boyfriend were going on the following day, that day, after getting her nails done, she bought 'Love Story' to take on holiday with her. Two weeks later Jennifer's client came into the salon, excited and smiling, her boyfriend had PROPOSED!!! Jennifer asked for all of the details and one of details from that evening was she was wearing 'Love Story'!

These are the stories we have been told as they have been to people close to us, but if our theme for this gorgeous red is true, it really is a 'Love Story' in it's self.

Love Story is available via our website www.lovehonourandbetrue.com for £12!

We would love to hear your Love Stories

Our Lipsticks on the Runway!

Backstage photo by Elizabeth Stuart
Me and Kitty were lucky enough to be invited to the amazing Elizabeth Stuart's Fall show and our beautiful lipsticks were worn on the models to complement the amazing gowns!
The only obvious lip colour choice was 'Just Married' (our nude lip colour) chosen by Pamela and Andrea MUA, as Elizabeth's Dresses are so unique and romantic that only neutral lip work work.

At the Start of the Runway
The Show showed trends of fairy-tales and nature - which looks to be hot this autumn -how exciting! Colour trends look to be dusty pinks and glitter - what you imagine when you think of a sugarplum fairy and our beautiful lipsticks are the perfect accompaniment for any whimsical look.

If you are bride looking for Happily Ever After - Elizabeth Stuarts Gowns are definitely the choice for you, marry this with a neutral lip and it is a match made in heaven!

Flower Trends look to continue being moss, earthy tones, elderflowers and hydrangeas - we love!

Our gorgeous lipsticks are going to be in the gift bags for all the attendees for the show.... and me and Kitty will be in the crowd too (yippee).

Testimonial from a real Blushing Bride

I am very honoured to have been the first Love, Honour and Be True bride when I got married in Cape Town, December 2013.  I wore 'Blushing Bride' and the colour was absolutely perfect.  I couldn't find 'the right' colour anywhere else that was natural but still noticeable - this lipstick was the one for me and I couldn't recommend it more highly for any bride-to-be out there.  I felt so comfortable wearing it - it felt special for my big day but not too bright that I was worrying about covering my husband's face with it for the photos after our first kiss!  The packaging is just so lovely and makes it really special and the quality of the actual make up is second to none - it feels like wearing velvet cream on your lips. The great thing is that now the wedding is over it's a wonderful way to keep that memory of the day alive - I wore 'Blushing Bride' on Valentine's Day and it brought back the memories of my big day all over again. It feels like so much care, thought and love has gone in to making these lipsticks and you really feel like you're wearing something tailored for your wedding day when you wear it.  Thanks ladies for adding that special touch to my big day - much love xxx 'Mrs Koufou'

Imogen recieved one of our lipsticks prior to our launch so that she could wear one of beautiful shades on her big day! Imogen wore 'Blushing Bride' available on our website;

And now the information you really want to hear.... THE WEDDING DETAILS!!

A charming wedding for two - just bride and groom – the epitome of romance! Set in the idyllic backdrop of the Western Cape, we went for romantic bliss with a maroon and red theme for our Summertime South African Christmas wedding. We brought all of our special tokens and vintage finishing touches from the UK to bring a little part of our family and friends with us...from my sister's garter, to my grandmother's vintage clutch bag, from silver Kurt Geiger sandals bought by my girlfriends and an ‘I do’ sticker placed under my shoe by one of my oldest friends, to a six-pence inside my shoe from my mother-in-law!

We decided to have a very intimate ceremony on 28th December 2013, just the two of us, over in the place where our journey together started. It was a dream come true for us to have made this commitment to each other under the African stars. Both of us are British but were living in Cape Town, both having life changing moments in our own journeys, when we met 3 years ago. We've been going back every Christmas and it was during our Christmas holiday 2012 that Savvas proposed (on 28th December actually!)...so we knew immediately that we had to go back to Cape Town to get married.

We flew over from the UK on the 21st December and stayed in Cape Town for a week to relax and prepare and stayed in the beautiful hotel, Ellerman House, where all the stars stay when they visit South Africa. The night before the wedding we drove over to the wedding hotel, La Residence, which is set in the dramatic and breathtaking Wine Valley town Franschhoek, 50 minutes outside of the city. La Residence is set up the slope of the Franschhoek mountains, with breathtaking views over the valley below and vineyards surrounding the estate. The luxury estate is a true 5-star venue – built and decorated in old-French style. The thatched reception hall with chequered floor is lit by massive crystal chandeliers. To add to the regal feel, the walls and surrounding grounds are decorated with a high value art collection and sculptures. Definitely a venue fit for royalty…Elton John himself has his own suite here!!
The theme was red to keep with the romance of the day (and also the time of year being Christmas!), and maroon, which is Savvas’ favourite colour. The incredible events coordinator Chantell Viljoen and her florist at La Residence had created a red rose petal trail for me, lined with maroon storm lanterns, down the hill to the lake where we tied the knot at 6pm, with the African sunset as a back drop, under a stunningly decorated pergola. We had written their own vows and chosen some of our favourite poems and prayers to read to finish off the entirely unique and personal ceremony, which included a traditional African ‘Unity Sands Ceremony’ where there is a symbolic blending of two different sands to represent their inseparable bond in marriage.

We were serenaded with our favourite romantic classical music by a violin and a guitar (courtesy of Mike and Titia of Palm Strings), and music gently filled the air as they followed us as we strolled around the grounds of the hotel having our couples photo shoot – it was like something out of a movie! We had the preparations and ceremony captured by ZaraZoo Photography, and an amazing video (https://vimeo.com/84945511) created by Storyboard Productions, to share with our family and friends back at in the UK. This wonderful team from both ZaraZoo and Storyboard were incredibly thoughtful and helped to keep our day intimate and relaxed, but we also had lots of fun with them (we all giggled because the team were getting midgy-bitten as they were rummaging around in the bushes trying to get the perfect shots as the sun set by the lake!).

I wore an understated yet stunning Amanda Wakeley dress and veil (from her London, Chelsea boutique and from her aptly named 2013 ‘Africa’ range!), which was comfortable and perfect for the relaxed summer South African setting, but could also be transformed for a UK winter wedding party by adding a lace jacket custom made by the dress makers of Pure Couture. I wore a beautiful Gillion Million headpiece (from her Teddington boutique), and I just had to go with the obligatory sparkly Jimmy Choos for the UK party. Savvas wore a Hugo Boss suit and Oliver Sweeney shoes and accessories – two of his favourite brands. My ‘Snow White look’ makeup and hair was flawlessly created by Marize Louw and her assistant Rina, and I wore the most incredible lipstick courtesy of the original wedding makeup brand 'Love Honour & Be True', a company actually created by one of my oldest and dearest friends Helen Hiscocks with her sister Kitty.

Our dinner menu was created especially for us…because there was only the two of us we could both have their favourite meals, which included grilled beef for Savvas, and Malva Pudding, a traditional South African desert. The chefs at La Residence surprised us by baking the smallest wedding cake ever, and after the ceremony, once the photographers and videographers had left, we settled in to a romantic wedding dinner for two, watching the sun set in each other's arms...bliss.

After the wedding we went straight off on our honeymoon to the luxury beach villa resort of Azura, on Benguerra Island, Mozambique. However, this special celebration would not have been complete for us without sharing the occasion with those closest to us whom we love so much. So after we returned home to the UK from Mozambique, on Saturday January 25th 2014, we were honoured to have our family and friends to join us for the evening, in our home town of Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, to celebrate our marriage as we took our first steps on the next chapter of our journey. We had a relaxed evening reception in the Moroccan Lounge of the fabulous 'Crazy Bear Hotel’ in Beaconsfield, coordinated by Ramona Todor (of Crazy Bear), and which was captured by Ines Banks of Source Image Photography. We went for formal but contemporary invitations for our party, created by The Letterpress of Cirencester, and also created a wedding website with Worldwide Wedding to keep our guests informed and to allow them to catch up on our SA wedding photos and video once we had returned.

If there are any couples out there tempted to go it alone and have that romantic wedding for two that they’ve always dreamed off, then we couldn’t recommend it more highly! We had the most memorable and wonderful day of our lives and we were thrilled to be able to really just enjoy it alone – celebrating with our one true love. It means you can go all out and have all those personalized touches that make the day really about you two…not to mention that it can save money if you have just a small celebration when you get back!

Looking after number one – Your skin

In the run up to your big day, you need to start thinking about number one – you! At the end of the day this means your skin. Here are some important steps to follow to gain that natural glowing bridal look.

With the changeable weather us Brits have, we need to make sure that on those sunny days, even if it is a little cloudy to wear an SPF – whether this is in your foundation or just a light amount of sunscreen before you leave the house (imagine being sun burnt or peeling in your wedding photos!).
Also if the weather is cool remember to moisturise – ensuring your face, knees and elbows are especially looked after so that if you are tanning the tan does not stick to your dry patches.

If you are working out in order to lose those last couple of pounds from your hen do and pre-wedding celebrations – remember to take all of your makeup off before you work out! Nobody cares what you look like at the gym or at your classes.
If you wear makeup when you are working out, your body will try to expel heat and toxins, which will clog in your pores, making your skin hold all those baddies you need to get rid of.

Choose a good skin care regime. Start early – not a week before and find a product which suits you. Stay away from anything which includes alcohol (ethanol) or ‘aromatherapy oils’- these are not natural for your skin.
The skin care brand which we would recommend is Environ, especially their AVST range which formulated exclusively for the International Market. These moisturisers contain vitamin A and antioxidants including vitamins E, vitamin C, Green Tea Extract, Honey bush and Rooibos Tea Extracts, Resveratrol and Beta-Carotene – basically lots of skin goodies! We have recommended this range to friends and family who have mentioned noticeable improvements and compliments.

You can get Environ from good beauty salons or http://www.chelleon.co.uk/environ-skincare?gclid=CMaptMS3grgCFQ_LtAod200AyA

Lighting Effects On Make Up

Lighting is an important way to set the mood for your wedding, as certain colours and lighting types can add warmth and drama to your venue, however it can distort the way your makeup can be perceived.

If you are thinking about using colour filters to enhance your colour theme or using specific lighting please follow my lighting, colour, makeup guidelines;

Types of Lighting and Effects on Makeup

Tungsten artificial Light - Creates Orange/Yellow cast that dulls blue tones and darkens reds.
Florescent Light - Creates a Green Cast that removes the warmth from colours.
Natural Daylight - Creates a Bluish cast.

Coloured Light Effect on Makeup

Pink - Warms most colours but makes Blues and Greens appear Grey.
Red - Red tones appear lighter, Green shades appear darker, Blue becomes darker and Greyer.
Green - Darkens Red, lightens Green, Blue appears dark Green and Purple appears darker.
Violet - Turns most shades Orange, Browns appear darker and Greens appear Grey.
Yellow - Blues and Greens appear Grey.
Peach - Warms the skin but does not change makeup colours.

Beautiful Bridal Lashes Tutorial

Eyelashes add drama and sexiness to your Bridal look, you can enhance your eyelashes by many different means - mascara, tinting, extensions or by false eyelashes.

False eyelashes are a quick, cheap method to make your eyelashes beautiful without having to visit a beauty therapist.
Before                              After

Here is a stage by stage tutorial on how to apply the perfect false lashes;

1. Choose suitable eyelashes for your wedding look, for weddings you want more natural looking eyelashes as you are going to have your wedding photos forever and you don't want to look back and look like you are going clubbing. I have used Salon System eyelashes in natural lash.

2. Use a good eyelash adhesive - I am a massive fan of the Duo eyelash glue, which is a safe latex adhesive which is most importantly waterproof so they will not budge no matter how many tears of joy you may have! Duo eyelash glue is used by most makeup artists and is recommended by MAC cosmetics.

3. Once you have found your perfect eyelashes and your suitable adhesive you need to measure up the eyelashes to your eyes and trim appropriately to fit your eye.

Measuring up
4. Apply the eyelash adhesive to the length of the eyelash strip, and leave to dry until it is tacky - approx 2 minutes.

Letting the glue dry

5. Using tweezers or eyelash applicators apply the eyelash strips to the base of the eye lid along the eyelash line. Once in the correct position, push down the lashes with your fingertips to secure them in place. I would recommend using tweezers or eyelash applicators as the less you handle the eyelashes the less oil which is transferred onto the strip which will make them less likely to stay in place.

Applying to eyelid

And Voila you will have beautiful natural bridal lashes

Open                                Closed

You can find Salon Systems eyelashes (approx £3.99) and Duo eyelash adhesive (approx £4.99) on Amazon.com.

Is a Wedding Dress Friendly Tan really out there? Sienna X 8.5% Spray Tan

I have been really excited to try the spray tan version of the Sienna X range following using their cream based tans at home for many years so this months wedding dress tan test was quite an exciting one for me.

The tan was really easy to put on, smelt only slightly but instead of the usual biscuit tan smell was surprisingly sweet smelling. The tan develops over eight hours which is quite a long time compared to the other tans which we have tested, however the wait was worth it as the colour which developed was a rich golden colour, and although the tan took a while to develop, it did not transfer onto my clothes at all which made the wait not so bad.
Before               After

The tan lasted at full coverage for five days and started to fade on day six, by day eight it was nearly gone.

This tan would be great for a wedding day due to the colour, however as it did not last the full ten days it hasn't done as well on the honeymoon test (although if you were off to a hot destination your natural tan would top it up anyway).
Day 6

You can buy Sienna X from their website where they even sell a tanning mist which is a great way to top up your tan at http://shop.sienna-x.co.uk/Retail-Products/Tan you can also find Sienna X at most beauty wholesalers. The Sienna X website also has a salon locator to find your nearest therapist who does the Sienna X spray tan.

Would you wear the same scent as your husband to be on your big day?

I loooovvvveee the range of Tom Ford unisex perfumes, especially Black Orchid with its sensual, attention grabbing scent. The scent contains Black Truffle, Ylang, Bergamot, Lotus Wood and Blackcurrant. This combined allows this sexy perfume to be both male and female; unisex perfume has grown up from the days of CKone.

Why wear a different scent to your partner on your big day?
Unisex perfume can allow you and your partner to have the same perfume to link you both to your big day and allow you to both after smell of the same scent which reminds you of your magical day.

The Tom Ford range of unisex perfumes include;
Black Orchid, Amber Absolute, Velvet Gardinia, Black Velvet, Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, Purple Patchouli, Bois Rouge, Moss Breches, Tuscan Leather, Neroli Portofino and Japan Noir.

I wore Unisex on my big day and smelling my husband wear Black Orchid is my favourite.

p.s Happy 2013

Dry Lips Yuk!

Your Lips are one of the few areas of the body which need a lot of TLC - especially when it is cold and dry (nobody wants dry, cracked or flaky lips) especially as no lipstick or lip gloss look good on dry lips - especially matte lipsticks which accentuate your lip dryness.

Beautiful Kissable Lips
To battle dry lips drink plenty of water and use EOS lips spheres which contains lots of natural oils, also after applying the lips balm use a soft toothbrush and gently massage off the dry flakes alternatively add a pinch of sugar to your lips after applying lip balm and massage in to get rid of the flakes.

For this Festive Season and For New Year, make sure your lips are irresistible.
Happy Holidays!

How to find a lip colour to suit your skin tone

Finding a lip colour to suit your skin tone is essential for your big day so here are some tips to find the perfect colour to suit you.
All skin tones have a warmth or a coolness to them - pale skin tends to be more cool compared to olive skin, however there are anomolies where some dark skin can too be cool - warm skin tends to have yellow undertones compared to cool skin tones which have red or pink undertones.
A quick way of testing whether your skin tone is warm or cool is by seeing whether silver or gold suits your skin tones, alternatively you could use swatches of blues or purples compared to reds or oranges against your skin to see which suits best.
Once you have discovered which skin tone warmth you are finding a shade which suits these skin tones is equally important.
For warm skin tones think coral, caramel nudes, warm rose pinks and berry colours.
For cool skin tones think blue spectrum - pale pinks, beige nudes and classic reds.

As a general rule lip colour has to be a shade darker than your usual lip colour.

Is a Wedding Dress Friendly Tan really out there? Su-do Tan 10% spray tan

Before     After

After hearing great things about Su-do tan, I was excited to do the Wedding Dress tan test with this particular tan.

The tan was easy to be applied, didn't leave any marks or patches. After leaving the salon I did not look like I had been for a tan which was a bonus as I was doing my Christmas shopping and even better the tan takes only 4 hours to develop!
The colour of the tan after being washed off, was natural and left me looking like I had olive skin with a glow.
Day of Tan        Day 12 of Tan
The tan lasted approximately 9 days being still quite strong, at day 12 it was barely recognisable which makes it definately pass the honeymoon test.
Slight mark under armpit
The wedding dress test was quite good with only slight marks just under the armpits which is also a bonus.

You can purchase Su-do from Amazon.com for approx £15 for DIY Su-do tan, alternatively Su-do tan is very popular for Beauty Salons and a full body costs approx £20.

I am so excited that Seche has brought out their first colour line!
It has 33 colours and are all high intensity colours which can be achieved with just one coat!
For a perfect french is 'Debutante', which is a baby pink with a shimmer and can be used with either two of these great whites 'porcelain' or 'blanc'.

Another great colour from this collection is 'Smitten' which is a gorgeous shimmery coral, which would perfect as bridal nail wear or would look cute on your bridesmaids as it will go with any colour dress.

Follow this by using the Seche Vite top coat to ensure a perfect shiney finish.
You can find these products on http://www.seche.com/try-on/index.php?sku=69232

Less is More

A massive wedding trend for 2013 is 'Less is More' whether this is decoration, wow factor and even the dress. So why not stay on trend with your make-up. Less is More makeup has been see already in two of the biggest, yet conservative and annoyingly secretive weddings, Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman and Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied.
To gain the Less is More look, you need;

  • a defined lash - but not a thick false lash look - you can gain this by eyelash extensions
  • muted eye shadow tones - get an eye shadow which suits your natural skin tone
  • a nude lip
  • a good base foundation
  • and a peachy blush
